Your Dog Into Our Care

Figgy

None of us can predict how our circumstances may change and force us into considering an alternative home for our Italian Greyhound/s. These changes could be due to any of the following: ill health, family break up, a new baby or elderly relative joining the household and requiring your care, taking up full time work, moving into an apartment or sheltered accommodation where pets are not permitted, moving abroad or you have decided that this is not the breed for you. Any of these changes may require you to seek an alternative home for your Italian Greyhound or IG cross breed through the Rescue Charity who have some lovely homes waiting to adopt an Italian Greyhound.

The Italian Greyhound Rescue Charity is always willing to help, but first, does your dog fit the description of what an Italian Greyhound is? So many people contact us only for us to discover that the dog is a big Whippet or Greyhound. The size of an IG may be a little over or under the ideal height of 32-38cms (13-15 inches) at the shoulder.

Next, please make contact with the Rescue Co-ordinator Shirley Penrose-Hansell, preferably by telephone on 0161 428 0142, or you can email: rescuecoordinator@italiangreyhoundcharity.org.uk . If your call is urgent and there is no answer and you do not wish to leave a voice mail, please try the Charity Chairperson Helen Lister on 015394 43343, or Secretary Adrian Bickers on 01462 731567 who will take a message.

We can arrange to collect your dog as soon as is practicable and will request that you sign a relinquishment form at the time of placing your dog into our care. You may wish to write a few lines about your IG's likes, dislikes and routine for us, alternatively you can download for: "To Whom It May Concern" where these details can be completed. Any documentation applicable to your pet will be retained by the Charity with the exception of a vaccination certificate if one is available, which needs to accompany the dog.

Your dog will be rehomed to an approved, home checked family/person. The charity will always be the legal custodian of your dog; we operate a long term adoption scheme and will maintain contact with the dog for the rest of his /her life. We are always happy for you to contact us to see how your dog has settled in.
